Netflix is “not interested” in buying Lionsgate

Speculation surfaced not too long ago surrounding Netflix potentially buying Lionsgate, the studio that’s backed large IPs like John Wick, Twilight, The Hunger Games, Knives Out, and seen immense success in the documentary world with Michael, which is getting a sequel. Now, the streamer has shot down the rumor.

The chatter surfaced and caused a whopping 14% spike in Lionsgate shares before faltering after-hours. Per Deadline, a Netflix spokesperson bluntly refuted the rumors. The idea wouldn’t too far out of the question, though, while Netflix has failed to acquire Warner Bros., with Paramount swooping in to take the reigns, this deal seems more to their speed.

“Netflix is not interested and is not pursuing Lionsgate.”

Lionsgate isn’t as big of a studio as some of the others out there, but as mentioned above, man, they have some big IPs under their filmography, as well as notable one-offs or ones that have yet to see itself as more than one, like Barbie, for example.

Right now, Lionsgate has a sequel to Michael as well as a Monopoly movie in the pipeline, but both sound like they’re in the early stages, with the latter having two duos trying to flesh out the idea.
