People certainly have their own take about how they feel about modern films. After a certain point, many end up feeling like filmmaking has changed, with less nuance in favor of clearer foes and protagonists regardless of the project. Meryl Streep has thrown in her two cents during a press tour alongside Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt, though, and she is not happy with modern filmmaking.
While speaking to Hits Radio Breakfast Show (via Variety) not too long ago, Streep expresses how she hates how filmmakers are opting to “Marvel-ize” their films instead of offering more nuanced characters, something that The Devil Wears Prada 2 accomplishes.
“I think we tend to Marvel-ize the movies now. We got the villains and we got the good guys, and it’s so boring.
What’s really interesting about life is that some of the heroes are flawed and some of the villains are human and interesting and have their own strengths. So that’s what I like about this [film]. It’s messier.”
In case you don’t know, Streep played Miranda Priestly in the original flick and reprises her role in its recently released sequel. Most of the cast actually return to their role, sans Adrian Grenier, who was not asked to reprise his role as Nate, nor were they able to sneak in a cameo, either.
