Superman: Man of Tomorrow snags Matthew Lillard

Last year’s Superman raked in over $600 million worldwide, so of course, a sequel is in development with some pretty stacked casting. Superman: Man of Tomorrow, the sequel, will feature the likes of Nicolas Hoult, Lars Eidinger, Rachel Brosnahan, Skyler Gisondo, and more in the feature. But, it seems we’ve got more in the pipeline as Shaggy’s entering the set. That’s right, Matthew Lillard, best known for portraying Scooby-Doo‘s Shaggy in both live action and animated form, is part of the ensemble.

Deadline reports that he’s playing an unknown part in the James Gunn-led hero sequel. Frankly, it shouldn’t be too surprising, Lillard already has ties with DC, playing a role in Daredevil: Born Again, for better or worse.

Obviously, it’s gonna be some time before we see any trailer or first look of the film, but it’s in pre-production and sets sights for July 9, 2027. This would be in line with the original Superman, which debuted in 2025 on July 11. It was also the first DC film to surpass $300 million domestic since The Batman in 2022.

Lillard has been playing in a lot lately, which he attributes to nostalgia, saying at the time:

“… there’s a weird nostalgia thing happening in our industry and in the zeitgeist because I think that people are longing for ye olde times. I think that’s one of the reasons I’m having this moment to be honest, is because I was identified in that moment, so people are hiring me again.”
