What was once a beloved IP, Harry Potter itself has become a divisive topic thanks to franchise creator J.K. Rowling’s anti-trans rhetoric. But, even so, a subsect of Potterheads are certainly excited and it seems HBO is banking on the upcoming Harry Potter series doing well, as they’ve already greenlit a Season 2 ahead of the premiere this December.
TVLine got the scoop. The series, which is a retelling of Harry Potter, introducing more of the book content that couldn’t make it into the film due to pacing and stuff like that, stars budding actor, Dominic McLaughlin, who appeared in Matthias Hoene’s Gifted. There’s also Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout playing the roles of Hermione and Ron respectively.
This is also the show that controversially cast Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, a character who has a storied history of bullying and criticism of the way the character looks in the books and movies, making the casting choice seem… not the best in hindsight. Hopefully, though, Essiedu can play the role and knock it out of the park.
If you’re looking for a little sneak peek, HBO dropped a teaser, giving us a look at how the series is adapting Philosopher’s Stone.
Harry Potter launches on December 24.
