Spider-Noir star wants teens to watch black and white films

Spider-Noir is gonna be an interesting release for Prime Video. Not only is it shot in color, but it will also available in black and white. Not a lot of mainstream things tend to do this, and as said by Nicolas Cage, this is the point and he hopes this will inspire teenagers to seek out black and white films.

In a recent interview, the star explained it was his idea to shoot in color and “the dream” is these teens will watch it normally and then check it out in black and white. They’ll find an interest in movie references and will look into that, leading them to “a treasure trove of wealth of the great American cinema.”

“Actually, it was one of my ideas to have them shoot it in color. Because I am aware of teenagers, and I’m aware they don’t have that much experience with black and white.

So the dream is they watch it in color and then they check it out in black and white and learn something, and then maybe go, ‘Hey, I want to see some of these movie references.’ And then they open a treasure trove of wealth, of the great American cinema. That’s the dream. I hope that happens.”

What is Spider-Noir?

Spider-Noir is a collaboration between Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. The show follows Ben Riley, a down-on-his-luck private investigator coming out of superhero retirement to serve some justice across eight episodes set in 1930s New York.

The series is set to release to MGM+’s broadcast network first on May 25 and then release to Prime Video on May 27. All episodes will be available to binge.
