Iron Lung sets sights on YouTube as its new home
Content creator and filmmaker Mark “Markiplier” Fischbach is poised to release his debut feature film, Iron Lung, to YouTube this month for purchase. This comes after a decently successful theatrical outing raking in a little over $50 million worldwide, which is an impressive feat, considering how much went into the film.
Markiplier announced the news during a recent Cannes panel. As to why he picked YouTube over other platforms, he said he was loyal to it, which makes sense, as largely, without YouTube he would probably never have entered the creator space, much less the indie theater scene.
Iron Lung isn’t like other films, it didn’t have massive backing, instead, it was solely Markiplier’s huge audience going to see it that helped recoup his $4 million budget. The film was not only written and directed by Mark, but also produced, financed, as well as the star of the flick. Beyond him, though, Caroline Rose Kaplan, Troy Baker, and Elsie Lovelock all act as co-stars.
He also self-released the film to theaters in the US while Piece of Magic Entertainment distributed it internationally. He’s also planning on handling the physical release by himself, too.
Iron Lung will be available to purchase on YouTube on May 31.
