After 7 years, Favreau may be hinting at his exit

Jon Favreau has largely been a net-positive for Star Wars franchise after some not-so-heavy hitters. In 2017, he pitched what would become The Mandalorian, a spin-off series that kicked off Disney’s exclusive streaming service, Disney Plus. At the time, he was in the middle of directing live action The Lion King before that following year, penning four episodes before signing a deal with Kathleen Kennedy.

Skip forward and The Mandalorian is a huge hit and its spin-off film, The Mandalorian & Grogu, could be the “culmination of what” he’s been working on. The way it’s being read is this two hour and 12 minute film could be the last thing Favreau does for the franchise.

“I’ve been working on Star Wars now for seven years and to be able to step up to doing it as a film feels like a culmination of what I’m working on.”

It’s important to note that Favreau himself doesn’t say that this is his last hooray, but to say “culmination” is a choice of words, we suppose. To be fair, if he does depart the whole Star Wars scene, it’s not like he’s leaving on a sour note… assuming the upcoming flick doesn’t bomb.

What would Jon Favreau leave behind?

Besides The Mandalorian, which he established himself, acting as the series’ executive producer and writer alongside Dave Filoni, he also worked on The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, which put together culminate into what fans are calling the MandoVerse

May 22 will see The Mandalorian & Grogu hit theaters where Favreau stepped into the director’s chair this time, alongside acting as a writer with long-time Star Wars collaborator Filoni and Noah Kloor.
