Man of Steel director Zack Snyder is excited for the upcoming release of Blue Beetle. This niche superhero film, which is the last movie made before James Gunn was named co-CEO, hits theaters on August 18 and is in serious trouble of being another significant flop for DC Studios.
Snyder shared on Twitter that he’s excited to take his kids to the flick when it hits theaters. This is no doubt going to at least give it a little more press, considering how limited it has to be due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. He also touched on how important this movie is to the Latino community.
Suicide Squad director David Ayer shares his excitement. Meanwhile, Geeks of Color Robert Butler III notes that Snyder’s tweet has raised more awareness of the film’s existence than the studio, which should be marketing the flick in some fashion.
Any promotion is a net positive as Blue Beetle faces an uphill battle marked with poor projected box office numbers, a lackluster marketing campaign, and actors unable to participate in press junkets due to the strike. It was so bad that starring actor Xolo MaridueƱa has pleaded with the DC community to promote it.
