Blue Beetle star calls on DC fans to promote film

Blue Beetle star Xolo Maridueña is calling on fans to drum up support for the upcoming solo film amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, which has left the industry in a rocky place. Not only are writers actively on strike, leaving tons of shows in this unfinished state, but now actors have joined the mix and with over 160,000 actors associated to SAG-AFTRA, it’s not an insignificant number.

Unfortunately, part of the strike demands actors not promote upcoming films or participate in press tours or cons. Maridueña, though thinks he may have found a solution — the community. Taking to Instagram, the Cobra Kai alumnus expressed his disappointment in not being able to participate in the press junket, but this strike is more important than the film’s press coverage.

In lieu of the press junket ahead of its perspective release later this year, he took to Instagram, calling on fans to advertise the film. While Blue Beetle hasn’t had his time in the sun for some time, plenty of people were excited to see Maridueña starring as Jaime Reyes.

Considering the rocky place recent DC films have been in, it’s hard to say how well it will do, especially since Blue Beetle is a rather small IP compared to previous box office underperformers like Shazam! Fury of Gods and The Flash, though the latter’s underperformance could have partially to do with starring actor Ezra Miller’s erratic — and sometimes illegal — behavior over the last couple years.
