Talladega Nights eyes theatrical re-release for 20th anniversary
Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby turns 20 this year and to celebrate that anniversary, Columbia Pictures is bringing the film back to theaters nationwide for three days.
The Adam McKay-directed and co-written comedy is his second theatrical success — the previous being his debut directing gig, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy — with beloved actor Will Ferrell. The film tells the story of Ricky Bobby, a famed NASCAR stock car driver played by Ferrell, and his racing cohort, Cal Naughton Jr., played by John C. Riley, find themselves threatened by French Formula One driver, Jean Girard, who wants to surpass the duo.
Beyond Ferrell and Riley, the flick features Gary Cole, Michael Clarke Duncan, and Sacha Baron Cohen. Back in 2006, Talladega Nights was a massive hit, amassing $163 million worldwide, with a staggering $148 million being domestic box office numbers.
