Netflix came out on top in the bidding war to distribute Shawn Levy and Max Taxe’s Somewhere Out There. While Taxe’s history in the biz is pretty short, only having one released project, his established relationship with 21 Laps, Levy’s own production company, helps get his feet off the ground here for Netflix.
Somewhere Out There is billed, according to THR, as being in the “vein of Arrival,” a sci-fi drama directed by Denis Villeneuve. It also just so happens that Levy was involved in that flick, as well as a producer. It’s unclear who the film is going to star, but it’s expected, considering Levy’s love to work with big actors who can give off “dad vibes,” a number of high-profile actors are throwing their hat into the ring.
The film stars a grieving father who loses his wife and takes to the stars to be consoled. The thing is, something started talking back.
Besides Somewhere Out There, Taxe wrote the 2022 middle of the road received Moonshot and is working with 21 Laps to bring to life Ripple with Jack Quaid in the starring role.
