Meg 2: The Trench makes way to home video

Earlier in the month, Warner Bros. Pictures distributed Ben Wheatley’s Meg 2: The Trench, a sequel to the 2018 film, The Meg. Now, those who aren’t theatergoers are able to take part in the experience today.

As reported by Comicbook, the sci-fi action flick’s VOD and Digital HD release will include bonus features such as clips of the cast and crew revisiting how they made the horror film and another with the cast and crew — including Wheatley and the movie’s producers — showcasing how they designed the new creatures seen in The Trench.

Wheatley hopes to make this a trilogy and likely more, as he told Total Film there’s “a lot more” to explore with the series. Unfortunately, Meg 2 floundered at the domestic box office, but on the bright side, more than made up for it internationally with a staggeringly large gap of $68.8 million domestically and $251.8 internationally.

Considering the film’s budget — barring marketing, of course — was $129 million, it’s more than recouped its production costs and doubled it, so really it ends up with the domestic earnings being more of “icing on the cake.” Now, whether or not a third film is in the franchise’s future is to be seen, it might not be worth it to Warner Bros. to distribute a movie that’s only viable internationally. The other side of that, though, is how viable it was at international box office, so really, if Wheatley wants to make it a trilogy or more, it’ll probably happen one way or antoher.
