I Want My MTV doc distribution rights handed to Neon

‎ Gabriel Stanford-Reisinger
May 4, 2026

Neon has taken hold of more than just the North American rights to Ally, the Bong Joon Ho-led animated drama film set to release next year, they’ve also snagged rights to adapt Craig Marks and Rob Tannenbaum’s oral history book titled I Want My MTV: The Uncensored Story of the Music Video Revolution.

Deadline reports of the adaptation rights, noting Germey Jasper has taken the lead as director and co-screenwriter alongside Jim Hecht. Jasper’s debut feature — Patti Cake$ — was a smash-hit at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. I Want My MTV specifically focuses on the early years of the network between 1980 through 1985.

Besides Jasper and Hecht in their respective roles, Noah Stahl, Riva Marker, Glen Powell, and Dan Cohen are all attached as producers while the executive producer role goes to Eva Maria Daniels. Casting is underway, so we can rest assure it’s gonna probably take a while to get new info about I Want My MTV.
