Green Day-inspired comedy, Nimrods, heads to theaters this year

Green Day is a pretty well-established band, having come from an era where punk was an underground scene, they’ve formed their own sound and have inspired many, many bands to find their own success within the music industry. Now, fans of the pop punk — though they hate being called that — band can get excited for a film based on the band’s pre-Dookie era.

Titled Nimrods, this film sees a fledgling band go on a road trip after mistakenly believing they got the opportunity of their lives — opening for Green Day on New Years Eve. THR reports the cast will be filled up by Mason Thames, Mckenna Grace, Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, Sean Gunn, Bobby Lee, and Fred Armisen.

Nimrods‘ script is penned by Lee Kirk, who worked with Green Day on the script. This isn’t Kirk’s first time dealing with the band, having previously worked with frontman Billie Joe Armstrong in the latter’s debut acting gig, Ordinary World. If that wasn’t enough, Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tre Cool are all signed as producers of the flick alongside Tim Perell. Ryan Kroft, Michael Rapino, and Jonathan Daniel act as executive producers.

Nimrods hits theaters August 14.
