Murder, She Wrote film sets sights on 2028 release now

‎ Gabriel Stanford-Reisinger
April 23, 2026

Murder, She Wrote — the reboot, of course — has been delayed into 2028 from its original 2027 release. This brings the crime drama out of range of competing with Avengers: Secret Wars, The Lord of the Rings: Hunt for Gollum, and The Housemaid’s Secret.

The Jaime Lee-Curtis reboot film originally set sights on December 22, 2027, but that’s no longer the case with this delay, which puts it squarely February 4, 2028. No reason was given, according to Variety. The film itself has a lot of questions around it, with the plot still largely under wraps.

Curtis takes the starring role of Jessica Fletcher, nabbing the position from late Angela Lansbury, who had spent 80 years building her portfolio, including the starring role in Murder, She Wrote’s original TV airing, which started back in the mid-80s and lasted a staggering 12 seasons.

Pitch Perfect’s Jason Moore takes a seat as the film’s director with Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo inking the script. The ever-popular Phil Lord and Christopher Miller also have their hands in this flick as producers.

Frankly, while not a death sentence, it probably was for the best to shy away from resurrecting a long-standing IP around the same time as the trio of earlier mentioned flicks. While Murder, She Wrote would’ve probably still done well stemming from older fans, this new slot may be better suited to capture a wider audience.
