Mortal Kombat II manages to win over audiences

‎ Gabriel Stanford-Reisinger
May 8, 2026

Mortal Kombat is no stranger to the world of films, in fact, the franchise has made a lot of movies across its time dipping their toes into the adapting game back in 1995. That said, to label the films as “good” has always felt hollow, most of the movies have never surpassed mid-80s on Rotten Tomatoes, but it seems Mortal Kombat II has bucked that trend.

As audience reviews roll in, it seems the latest film has been a hit with audiences, while predictably leaving room for critics who simply aren’t fans of it, though, its director seems to pin the blame on critics that haven’t played the games. As it stands, the flick sits at a 90% with users and only a 64% with critics.

This is actually a record for the films, marking itself as the most well-received MK film, with 2022’s Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind coming in second place sitting at an 87%.
