DC’s body horror, Clayface, finally gets first trailer

You know, it feels like Batman’s villains are usually more grounded than his fellow heroes. Think about it — you have The Joker, who’s just a psychotic man, Penguin, who’s just a deformed rich guy, Two-Face, who, while he does have an element that makes him special — the deformation caused by acid being thrown in his face — is just an ex-lawyer with dissociative identity disorder. That doesn’t mean there aren’t less grounded villains within Batman’s 80+ years of heroism.

Among those villainous adversaries, you have Clayface. A man who turned his entire body into clay. It’s usually pretty dark, with body horror often coming alongside his appearances. Imagine many’s surprise, though, when Clayface was selected to be the next DCU film. This leads us to now where we finally get a look at DCU’s next R-rated flick centered around the villain’s origin story.

What is Clayface?

Clayface follows a rising Hollywood star who’s whole world is rocked after getting seriously disfigured by a gangster, he takes to a scientist to turn his whole body into clay as a last resort. This operation, though, changed him from a Hollywood star to a monster seeking revenge.

The film stars Tom Rhys Harries as the namesake alongside Naomi Ackie as the scientist. James Watkins takes the helm as its director while Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini ink the script. Matt Reeves, Lynn Harris, James Gunn, and Peter Safran all take to the producer chairs.

Fans won’t have to wait too long as Clayface aims for a release this year — specifically October 23.
