Rick and Morty to use soundalikes for title characters

July 22, 2023

Ever since Adult Swim cut ties with Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland over domestic violence allegations, which have since been dismissed, fans have been anxious to know what the show’s future holds. They promise that the two characters will be the same characters with no change.

During a San Diego Comic-Con panel, it was revealed that the cult show would continue with soundalikes to take Roiland’s place. Other shows he was a part of also shied away from the creative, with Hulu dropping Koala Man and recasting Korvo with The Prince’s Dan Stevens for Season 4.

Despite not seeing the duo in the new cold open, complete with sketched animations seen during the panel, fans are hyped. That said, they still haven’t completed the casting, so while soundalikes will be the future, they’re still not ready to share who will be the new voice — or voices — for the cult hit.

“It’s sound-alikes. The characters are the same characters. No change.”

Of course, we’re no closer to finding out when Adult Swim will debut Season 7 as we were a few months ago. When asked by a fan about that, Levy simply said, “pretty dang soon.”
