Henry Cavill’s new live action Voltron skipping theaters, Prime Video full-steam ahead
Despite not having nearly the pull of other mecha-focused shows maintain, Voltron remains a corner stone of the genre to some viewers. The franchise’s small and big screen adventures was put to to a halt back in 2018 with the finale of Voltron: Legendary Defender. But, said long media drout is finally over with a live action flick starring Henry Cavill, but don’t expect it in theaters.
Some time ago, DiscussingFilm learned the adaptation would be skipping theaters in favor of Prime Video. IGN confirmed, though, that this was the plan all along to omit theaters. It’s a mixed bag if a film will release to theaters or not under Amazon MGM Studios, as they kind of go both ways.
While Cavill takes center stage in Voltron, he’ll be joined by Daniel Quinn-Toye, Sterling K. Brown, Rita Ora, and more. Rawson Marshall Thurber sits in the director’s chair alongside co-producing with Todd Lieberman, David Hoberman, and Bob Koplar. Thurber doesn’t make just anything — his last feature film behind-the-scenes was 2021’s Red Notice, an action comedy starring Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne Johnson as the unlikely duo of a notorious art thief and FBI profiler teaming up to capture an even more notorious thief.
