Creating one horror film based on a beloved childhood fairytale isn’t enough for Louisa Warren and ITN Studios as it takes aim at Sleeping Beauty next. Dubbed Sleeping Beauty’s Massacre, the film is currently in the filming stages in Scotland.
It’s clear the movie will have a lot of gore and will most likely be a “gorefest.” With only a few images courtesy of Bloody Disgusting, the store is clear enough to get the barebones of it.
The beautiful Princess Thalia is thrown to ruins after her father’s mysterious death. She lives with Prince Edison who she is in love with but can no longer marry since losing her status. Queen Velma wants the kingdom for herself and will use her dark powers, and use of the occult, to take over at any means necessary. Velma casts Thaila into a deep sleep to never wake, till one day she does and her web of lies start to fall around her. A violent twist after twist with gory and graphic deaths will ensue.”
Little-known actress Lora Hristova takes on the leading role, with Benedict Clarke, Sophie Rankin, Charlotte Coleman, and Yvonne Curwen all confirmed to be part of the film. Warren has lofty goals for the movie, setting out to make the “most uncomfortable horror experience to date.”
It’s not clear when Sleeping Beauty’s Massacre will be released, but considering ITN’s already got a film in the pipeline, we can expect that it would be after Cinederlla’s Curse, which is slated for October 2023.
It seems like as more stuff goes public domain or the wiser people get when it comes to parody, filmmakers have taken to creating twisted versions of childhood mainstays. Winnie the Pooh recently got Blood and Honey. All the while, its director, Rhys Frake-Waterfield, has two other horror films in the pipeline — Peter Pan: Neverland Nightmare and Bambi: The Reckoning.
