Chowder creator pitched a reboot, CN “had no money to make it”
Creator C.H. Greenblatt revealed that at one point, Cartoon Network reached out to him, asking him to pitch a reboot of his cult hit, Chowder, for a younger audience, seemingly under the name Chowder: First Course. His solution was the titular character wasn’t working in catering as the apprentice of Mung Daal. Instead, he was going to culinary school alongside Panini and Gorgonzola.
Sharing on Instagram, Greenblatt revealed the pitch never went forward because CN “had no money to make it.” Beyond the trio of apprentices-turned-culinary-students, “familiar faces” would’ve surfaced as faculty members. That is to say, we’d probably see Mung acting as the lead teacher or Schnitzel being their mechanic or something.
Now, Greenblatt never specified when it is Cartoon Network got in touch, but we have a sneaking suspicion it was probably a year or so ago or something somewhat recent, as it feels like older or classic toons are getting the remake treatment rather frequently and perhaps the network thought it could hit a market by getting Chowder back in action.
